MONTEFANO, A JOURNEY THROUGH ANCIENT STONES AND GOLDEN HORIZONS

On the gentle hills of the province of Macerata, Montefano stands out for its privileged position, where the gaze stretches from the Adriatic Sea to the Apennines, across a landscape of extraordinary harmony.

The origins of the village date back to Roman times: its name, derived from the union of mons and fanum, refers to a “hill consecrated to a temple,” probably dedicated to Fanum, the deity of harvests. This ancient root reveals a deep bond with the land and with the spirituality that has always characterized this place. Over the centuries, Montefano experienced periods of great historical and cultural vitality under the influence of noble families and religious orders, becoming an important center of faith, art, and knowledge in the heart of the Marche region.

The Collegiate Church of San Donato, with its brick façade and precious paintings, watches over the village together with small churches like Santa Maria della Confraternita, guardian of legends and devotions.
